Upon earning a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Swarthmore College in 1980, Cecilia Lee went on to attain a Master of Science from the University of Oregon in 1982. Unsure about her future as a scientist, she chose to use her knowledge of science and her abilities within the science library to do research for law firms that conducted medical negligence cases. In 1986, Ms. Lee obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon, subsequently becoming licensed to practice law by the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth and Tenth Circuits. In 2002, she became certified as a business bankruptcy specialist.
At the start of her career, Ms. Lee served as an appellate lawyer for Schwabe Williamson & Wyatt in Portland, Oregon in 1986. For 27 years, from 1988 to 2015, she flourished as an attorney at her eponymously-named firm, Cecelia Lee Ltd., having also served of counsel to Davis Graham & Stubbs, LLP for one year in 2015. Spending some time in the educational realm, Ms. Lee offered her expertise as an adjunct professor of consumer and business bankruptcy law and reorganizations at Willamette University from 2014 to 2017, where she has also participated on the board of visitors and the leadership council to the dean of the law school since 2012. Furthermore, Ms. Lee has served as the president of the University of Nevada at Reno PACKPaws and has contributed to the committee on consumer bankruptcy law at the American Bankruptcy Institute and the lawyer referral and service committee of the State Bar of Nevada.
Since 2016, Ms. Lee has been a shareholder of Fletcher & Lee, Ltd., a women-owned, boutique law firm focusing on the practice of business and bankruptcy law. Likewise, she has maintained affiliation with the State Bars of Nevada and Oregon and the International Women’s Forum. As a business bankruptcy specialist in the state of Nevada, she is honored to have reached an AV preeminent rating via Martindale-Hubbell and was recognized as a Lawyer of the Year in the practice areas of bankruptcy and creditor, debtor, rights, insolvency and reorganization law by Best Lawyers’ Peer Review and a Legal Elite by Nevada Business Magazine. Furthermore, her firm is revered as a Tier One Best Law Firm for Bankruptcy by U.S. News and World Report. Over the course of her career, Ms. Lee has contributed to a multitude of publications and lectures relating to business and bankruptcy law. She is the author of “A is for Antelope: The Alphabet of Nevada’s High Desert Basin and Range” from 2017.
